These photos are from a yard in Highland park. The front yard features a persimmon polyculture, many blueberry bushes and asparagus beds. The back yard includes three fruit tree polycultures, a pollinator flower garden, a raspberry trellis and a shade garden. These pictures were taken two years after planting. Edibility, sustainability and beauty were the focus of this project. Many plants included in the design are edible, add fertility to the soil, or attract pest controlling beneficial insects, most flower.

Pear Tree Polyculture in Backyard

Some understory species included in this polyculture are violets, lyre leaved sage, green cone flower, comfrey, wild strawberries, sorrel and anise hyssop.

This thick understory supports that pear tree by competing with weeds, providing fertility and attracting beneficial insects to control pests.

Plum Tree Polyculture

In this polyculture you can see an explosion of plants, including shasta daisy, comfrey, sorrel, green cone flower and yarrow.
